MEETING SOMEBODY, SENSIBLY.

None of this is specific to us. It is the advice that actually works, and we would rather print it plainly than sell you a feature instead.

Tell somebody where you are going

A friend, a sibling, anybody — where, who, and when you expect to be back. Then actually tell them when you are.

This site has no way to do that for you. There is no check-in, no live location, no emergency contact, and no button here that reaches anybody if something goes wrong. A person you told is worth more than any of those anyway.

The first few times, somewhere public

A café, a bar, a restaurant — somewhere with other people and staff in it. Not a home, not a hotel room, not somewhere you cannot leave easily.

Arrange your own way there and your own way back, so that leaving is always entirely up to you.

Keep the details to yourself for a while

Your address, where you work, where your children go to school, your bank details, your government ID. None of that is needed by anybody you have just met, and all of it is difficult to take back.

Be careful with photographs that show a doorway, a street sign, a school uniform or a number plate.

Nobody genuine asks you for money

Not for a flight, not for a hospital bill, not for a customs fee on a parcel, not for a trading account that is doing very well. This is the single most common way people are hurt on dating sites anywhere, and it usually arrives after weeks of somebody being extremely attentive.

This site will never ask you for a card, because it cannot take one. The single exception to all of this is your own membership, which is settled by hand — and you always start that yourself, from a button on this site. Nobody here will message you first asking for a payment. If anybody does, that is the end of the conversation and it is worth reporting.

Slow is a good sign, not a bad one

Somebody who wants your number in the first five messages, or who is upset that you would rather stay on the site for now, is telling you something useful about themselves. If you are listed here and your listing carries a number the house sells, remember somebody may already have it before they write to you — you are not told when that happens.

There is no algorithm here pushing you to hurry. Nobody is ranked or scored, no conversation is on a timer, and a thread you leave for a month is exactly where you left it. One thing here does run out: a membership ends on a date. Nothing about a person does.

If it feels wrong, it is enough that it feels wrong

You do not need a reason, or evidence, or to be sure. Leave, stop replying, block them. You will never be asked here to justify why.

If something has happened to you, tell the police first and us second. We are not an emergency service and we cannot be one.
